The Beautification Committee has identified abandoned
shopping carts as a significant neighborhood nuisance at their October
8, 2007 meeting. They proposed a resolution which was subsequently
approved by the board at the October 11, 2007 board meeting. The
resolution has been sent to Councilman Greig Smith's office to be
introduced to the City Council. The resolution calls for actions
to reduce abandoned shopping carts including:
-
Requiring stores to install systems to lock
wheels upon removal from the store lot or coin operated cart
use devices.
-
Requiring carts to have store phone numbers
on them.
-
Abandoned carts would be impounded.
-
Taking a cart would be illegal.
